Beer and Brewing PUBlications

BREWING NEWS is now a publishing empire of four regional beer newspapers. The first was Southwest Brewing News, which provided that region with honest beer news with an attitude. Three more papers have followed. Great Lakes Brewing News was established in 1996. Yankee Brew News was an existing paper that Publisher Extraordinaire Bill Metzger purchased as his third paper. MidAtlantic Brewing News started in 1999 and filled the gap left when Barleycorn ceased publication. The web site is developing a searchable brewery and beer bar directory. I'll admit it. I'm biased because I write for Great Lakes, but it was the high quality of Southwest Brewing News that convinced me to write for Great Lakes Brewing News when I was approached to write a column for a new paper about to be established. Don't take my word for it; pick up a copy and see for yourself.

Midwest Beer Notes is no longer a newspaper. What was the oldest of the three regional papers available in Wisconsin finally made it official that it had ceased publication after a long period of time without a new issue. But Mike Urseth's creation lives on in electronic form. Check it out.

Cream City Suds is a Milwaukee-based paper featuring the "Whisperings" of news and gossip of its publisher "Whispering Jeff" Platt. Although the paper focuses on Milwaukee, you'll also find coverage of breweries in northern Wisconsin, the Fox Valley, Madison, Chicagoland, and Saint-Paul/Minneapolis. Unfortunately, the paper hasn't been coming out on a regular schedule recently. If you have trouble finding the paper, be sure to check out the website for a thorough events listing, as well as brewery listings, links, and beer news and gossip.

Those are just the regional papers in Wisconsin. I'll put out a list of links to many more. Stay tuned.
